Throughout the workshop we will aim to create refined textured surfaces and commit equal importance to both the subtle and bold elements in our work.

This workshop is ideally structured for you to learn the Abstraction by Design method, to explore your visual voice and advance your creative output. The AbD method employs the layering of a paper and paint process combined with collaging, painting, sanding, scraping, water saturation, gluing, peeling and clear coating.

POWER OF 12 WORKSHOP

The POWER OF 12 AbD Workshop is designed for artists who desire to create a body of work. With a focus on both quality and quantity, we work on multiple panels to produce a cohesive body of work.

Take your creative energy onto the production line in this fast paced class. Participants will complete 12-12x12 “panels and explore different groupings, orientation, format and visual dialog within their body of work.

“Look between the rain.”

Artist Agnes Martin’s statement invites us to observe the space in-between. In a visual context, looking between the rain focuses on the significance of the space between the marks and colors found in abstract art.

Join me in discovering that in-between space as you focus on and apply the Abstraction by Design techniques to create your three panel triptych of spatial harmony.

In this class we focus on prepping multiple panels with layers of paper and paint to create a variety of dynamic textured surfaces. Layered Beginnings is the ideal introduction to the Abstraction by Design method and can serve as a refresher course for continuing students.

Our class goal is to complete a variety of textured surface panels by applying the AbD techniques of layering paper and paint.

Summer in the City!

This summer, I will be bringing the advanced Abstraction by Design class “Quietly Upscale to Chicago. The Quietly Upscale class is exactly how it sounds. Larger scale panels that are less busy.

We pre- edit our materials and color choices giving license to approach our work with a reserved thoughtfulness. Be prepared to create on a larger scale with less content. Hope to see you in this popular class..

Kathie Vezzani of Beliissima Art Escapes has been hosting Destination Workshops for years. She invited me to teach a mixed media AbD workshop at their Port Orchard Studios and I am thrilled. I will be introducing the Abstraction by Design method and mixed media techniques in this 3-day workshop.

I am excited to have my first solo exhibit in 2024 at Bryant Street Gallery in Palo Alto CA .

This show is titled Black & White in Color and will feature the latest work from my Chroma and G+P mixed media projects. I hope many of you can stop by and see this new work and/or meet me at the Opening on April 20th. Bryant Street Gallery has represented me and my work for the past 17 years, since 2007. For me, my relationship with BSG has been one of lasting significance as Jeanne & Karen have always been supportive of me and my work progress. Thank you both.
